Once in a Lifetime: (Becky) (Unnamed Duo Book 1)

 by Luana Ferraz

Amazon

This was my 'Quirky Blind Date with a Book' this month. I will admit when I received it and saw the cover I thought it was a children's book.

It was such an entertaining read. Becky's character was so interesting. Becky and Pete, a London based punk duo, not that well known hired as an opening act for a famous American pop band.
I enjoyed the diversity between the characters, the admiration and chemistry. There was angst, tears and happiness. Some of it fluffy and some angst.
There are flaw in the book, but I don't mind. I'm not writing a literature review here, I'm basing it on the fact that I felt the emotions and I was entertained.
A fun story from an unknown-to-me-author.

Twelve days, eight shows, six cities.
How many unknown artists land that kind of gig?

Becky and Pete have been friends all their lives, almost as long as they’ve been a pop-punk duo. They moved from their small Northern hometown to London in hopes to ‘make it’—yet almost a decade on, they’ve got little to show for their efforts. Pursuing their dream has taken its toll on both of them, and they’re desperately in need of a break.
Enter The Hacks—an American bubblegum-pop trio that has been around for nearly fifteen years. Brothers Todd, Tyler, and Tristan were barely out of the diapers when their first album became a worldwide sensation. Their chart-topping success is long gone, but they’ve managed to stay relevant and keep a loyal fanbase.
In an unexpected turn of events, Becky and Pete are hired to be the opening act in The Hacks’ UK tour. Even though they don’t fit in the same genre and the out-of-the-blue proposition raises a few suspicions, the duo sees it as an opportunity. Maybe they’ll get the visibility and the contacts they need to get a record deal. Maybe this is the chance they’ve been waiting for.

But expectations might not meet the reality of the music business, especially when the lines between personal and professional life start to blur. Ghosts from the past, surprises in the present, and dreams for the future will align to shift their perspectives irreversibly. Are Becky and Pete up for the challenge?

Raised to Kill: Kindred Tales 32

 Evangeline Anderson

I don't think I'll ever tire of this series. The author's imagination is crazy fun. The animals, the people and the places on other planets make Earth boring.
They are to wed to heal a riff between cultures, only she's not what she seems. She's on a mission of death. Not a bad person though, just evilly brainwashed all her life.
It was fast paced or I just read too fast and it was over before I knew it. A few scary moments but love will conquer all.
Brilliant tale, I loved it.

A Bride ordered to kill her Husband

Marries a Kindred warrior who loves her.

Will she fulfill her mission to kill him?

Or lose her heart to him instead?

Read RAISED TO KILL to find out!

All her life, Allara Ke'ta'nu has been raised and trained with one purpose in mind--to kill a member of the Kindred High Council and avenge the Blood Feud which has raged between her people, the Q'ess, and the Kindred for generations. But in order to do that, she must first get close enough to kill. And what better way to get close than to marry the enemy?

Brand is a Beast Kindred who has just become a provisional member of the High Council. When the Q'ess announce they will end the Blood Feud with a marriage of one of their maidens to a Kindred warrior, he agrees to take her as a wife, since he is the only unmated member of the Council. What he doesn't expect is to fall in love...

Raised on tales of Kindred cruelty, Allara believes that Brand will be rough with her on their wedding night. When, instead, he introduces her to the Kindred concept of the Claiming Period, a slow dance of seduction begins. Can Allara hold on to her sense of purpose and do her duty as mandated by her people? Or will she lose her heart to the gentle touch of her new husband?
You'll have to read Raised to Kill to find out...

A Pocket In Time (Time Weavers, Inc. Book 2)

 by Lexi Post

Amazon

Regency is one genre that I rarely read, but I do love a time travel story.
Katz is part of a group that travel back in time to repair history interfered with by wrong doers.
Her mission and other missions do not count on human emotions, namely love.
In changing history something happened that made it worse and back again she went to fix it.
This was a fun story, I read it in one afternoon and loved it.

Katz Almira’s mission is clear—travel to the past, steal the note that ruins the world, travel back to the present. Easy. She’s the best pickpocket Time Weavers, Inc. has ever had. Posing as a poor widow in Regency London, she convinces her target, Lord John Byron, a man as sexy as he is wealthy, to take her in off the streets. But at her request to keep her hidden, instead of his cushy manor, he allows her to stay in a warehouse full of orphan boys he cares for there.

It’s the perfect place to hide, and bonus, her new roommates can help her find the mysterious note. With John as their pseudo-father, they know what he does every day, and with who. Katz can’t afford any distractions, but she soon finds herself getting attached to the orphans—and John—even helping him plan for their futures.

Each day she spends in the past is another day closer to her deadline, another day closer to returning to her own time, and another day John and this makeshift family get dangerously closer to her heart. But Katz staying in the past would have dire consequences for them all…

Each book in the Time Weavers, Inc. series is STANDALONE:
* On Highland Time
* A Pocket In Time

This is the third year in a row I've read this Aussie author around Australia Day, it's a coincidence but fitting.
This was a beautiful tale set in a small country town. I can't imagine knowing everyone around you while I'm invisible in the suburbs.
Daynah was on a mission for the betterment of her career but she got so much more than she bargained for. Finn was one of a kind, you wonder is she on the rebound or just fated to meet him.
I loved Daynah's back story, her hunt for her identity and the way the author wove all these pieces together. Daynah's health issues had me gripping my kindle.
Such a wonderful story, I absolutely loved it.

A town not as sweet as it sounds...

Daynah Walsh’s ticket to her dream job at Metropolitan magazine has just been handed to her—but before she can move into that corner office, she must take on an assignment in the small town of Sugarloaf Ridge and expose the town’s longest-held secret. What became of the baby that was abandoned on the steps of the bakery almost twenty-five years ago?

Daynah expects easy answers and to gain some editorial experience. What she doesn’t expect is a growing friendship with cattle station manager Finn McAllister and the tight-knit community to welcome her like a member of their family.
The problem is, no one will talk.

Three years ago, Finn McAllister was dumped at the altar. Every waking moment since he’s devoted to the family property, Banridge Station.
When the new contract editor of The Song arrives, she’s like a brilliant ray of sunshine. Daynah awakens his heart as she brings life and hope to the town. Finn’s always been one to fall fast, and before too long, he’s done for.
The problem is, she’s asking too many questions.

Will Daynah break the story? Will Finn and the town finally be the key to healing the scars of her past?

A story about identity, family and love, by Jennifer Ryder.

Her Intense Protector (Night Storm Book 4)

 Caitlyn O'Leary

Amazon

I do love this author's alpha heroes and their women.
Ezio and Samantha made a great couple....but the fur babies are the stars.
Here we have an Italian man, a big brother with leadership tendencies who is a big softie around rescue dogs.
Great chemistry between these two, it's their second chance. He comes to her rescue but of course she rescued herself and is stubborn enough to say so. She'll be keeping him on his toes.
This action packed romance was full of banter and humour. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Will he get to Samantha in time, so they can have their second chance at love?

For the longest time there had been only one woman who’d sparked his interest, but she was a continent away, so he immersed himself in his life as a Navy SEAL.

A year after breaking things off at the altar with her cheating fiancé, Samantha Brooks has moved across the country for a fresh start. She’ll concentrate on friends, not potential relationships, especially with good-looking Navy SEALs, no matter how much they’d already sparked her interest.

Now Samantha is miles from home, embroiled in a life-and-death situation to help a friend. Sure, she can find a way out on her own!

Ezio thought his toughest job was going to be overcoming Samantha’s relationship fears and capturing her heart, instead he finds out his most crucial mission is trying to save her life.

The Dry

I guess I'm a new fan of this author now. I didn't know the story until I saw the movie trailers and it caught my eye.
I read until late evening as I just couldn't put it down until I found how who and why.
Murder, more than one mystery happening here, are they connected?
Aaron left town with his father when he was 16. Returning as an adult for his mates funeral, dealing with small town animosity he is determined to find out what happened now and in the past.
A town dealing with a long time drought, tempers are frayed and yet people still find money for drinking and gambling which creates more trouble.
I loved the way the author wove all the pieces of this tale together. I really didn't see it coming, some of it maybe but not that missing link.
Brilliant story set in my home....I work in Footscray but stay out of alleys lol
Loved every moment and I'm looking up the next story now.

A small town hides big secrets in The Dry, an atmospheric, page-turning debut mystery by award-winning author Jane Harper.

Playing To Win: The Complete King Brothers Collection

 by Teagan Kade

AMAZON

I read these stories as they came out and can tell you you're in for a lot of fun.
THROW DOWN:
Erin was Peyton's unicorn, he'd never had anyone knock him back before. Her career could make or break them. Fun characters and entertaining story, I really enjoyed it.
BRINGING IT HOME:
Poor Titus got hit in the head with a baseball rendering him unconscious, in a coma followed by amnesia. What would it take to get his memories back? I felt sorry for Maya, she had a very strong connection and he didn't remember anything about her. Could they find love again?
Even though a serious injury it was still a light, fun read. I really enjoyed it.
HOT SHOT:
Another entertaining read in the life of the King Brothers.
Phoenix is unhappy with his sport and wants a life of his own. Heather is so unlike the groupies that hang off him that he's fascinated. Together they bring out the best in each other. Learning that giving back is fulfilling they forge a life together. I enjoyed this couple very much.
Great story and wonderful characters.
THE PENALTY BOX
Nolan is the last of the single King brothers. Linnea is a strong independent woman who keeps Nolan on his toes.
Linnea's father has come back into her life, an unwanted drama. He wants her for a business deal and will stop at nothing to get his own way. She and Nolan are in danger.
Both of them athletes they are planning their future together...will they make it?
This was a fun entertaining read. I loved the epilogues with the glimpses into the future of the King family.

I hate everything Peyton King represents.

I’ll need all his dirty little secrets before I blow his world apart.

Book 2 – Bringing It Home
A fastball to the head took Titus’s memories away.

Which is why his father hired me.
But getting close to this bad boy is going to be a tough assignment.
I’ll need a battering ram to break into his heart.

Book 3 – Hot Shot

Justice for Mackenzie (Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 1)

 by Susan Stoker

FREE

Oh my goodness I dived into this one and forgot to breathe for a while. When I got to know Mackenzie, and the penny dropped on the title my heart was racing. Was she going to die? Would I have to go and hunt the author down for making me cry lol ?
I fell in love with these two characters Daxton and Mack and his team that accepted her into their fold. That short curvy woman could be me, hmm so where's my tall cop? Brilliant that they were mature, both over 35 and finding love while fighting insecurities.
This is an author that writes from the heart, I love the scenes she sets and the characters I always grow to love.

A member of the famed Texas Rangers, Daxton Chambers has dealt with more than his share of depravity. But the Lone Star Reaper takes evil to a whole new level, kidnapping and burying women alive. It's Dax's job to help keep San Antonio safe, but even with help from friends in various law enforcement agencies, the killer remains two steps ahead. It's hardly the ideal time for a relationship, but Mackenzie Morgan is too luscious to resist. Dax wants her--which makes her an instant target for his newfound enemy.

When the Reaper gets personal, it will take every ounce of Daxton's considerable skill and training to keep Mack alive.

**Justice for Mackenzie is the 1st book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

This is a great introduction to a few authors I haven't read before along with others that I enjoy. Thirteen stories of men or women who Reign, some legally and others not. Here you'll find something for everyone.

Runaway Princess by Corinne Mazille - Sofia and Jett, do opposites attract? She's a rich heiress and he rides a mechanic and business owner. He's also her knight in shining leather as she flees her wedding. A fun story, I enjoyed it.

Illusive - The Exiled Eight MC by Addison Jane
Not read this author before and it took me a little time to get into the story. Alternating view points of the two main characters. Single mum of a teen she has a secret past hidden. Entertaining story.

Little Bird by Kally Ash
This was is a bit of a tease as it's unfinished with plenty more to come.

Kings Gambit by Emma James
This is a fave author of mine, I really enjoy her writing style.
Queenie is in trouble and she didn't even know it...or why.
I'm a fan of paranormal and this just had a hint, more a secret. Queenie is a good person and Bradford a billionaire playboy, he just hadn't found the right woman. Like her guardian angel he swoops in to save the day, with the help of some interesting acquaintances.

StarDust by Leesa Bow
My first read by this author, not unknown though as I am a stalker.
Footy, well I can't escape that living in Melbourne. A troubled player living with guilt falls off the rails on the anniversary of his father's death. Star is she the woman for him, he's not into relationships and she could be trouble.
I enjoyed the insight into his family life knowing he's not all bad. Great love story for these two.

Queen of the V by Liz Lovelock
I had no idea what the V meant, it sure wasn't what I guessed. This woman has her potential boyfriends crossing their legs and running for their lives when she reveals her job. An accidental meeting as part of a joke has her including him as a fake boyfriend to appease her mother. Their fake relationship was fun and I enjoyed their journey.

Three's a crown by JA Low
This was a fun modern day fairytale. Prince who loves his bodyguard is pressured to take a wife for his Kingdom. She'll need to be accepting and understanding of his lifestyle. This was a dirty romp and I'm glad I'm on leave and not reading on the train.

The trouble with love by Kat T. Masen
I haven't read this author before so I don't know the characters and the ending left me hanging but I still enjoyed the story. The characters were entertaining and I look forward to finding out what happens next.

The Unwanted Crown by KE Osborn
Hadn't read this author before either. Innocence in a world of mobsters. She knew nothing of her father's secret life and now she's pulled into it.

Surrendered Hearts by Nina Levine
Great short story, love a strong woman and the sizzling connection with her man. I look forward to discovering more of this author's work.

The Marriage Claim by Evie Mitchell
Another new to me author. Great characters, I look forward to discovering more.

They say that power corrupts.
But love heals all wounds.

Long may they reign...

You find them in the boardroom. The throne room. The bedroom.
They burn brighter than the rest.
They wield power as easily as they breathe.
They stop at nothing to get what they want.

Royalty, CEOs, mafia kings, demons, and more.
When love conquers, will they fall to their knees for the person they can't live without?

Reign is a collection of thirteen brand new romance novellas featuring men and women who rule their empires but not their hearts.

Playing Their Parts: Kindred Tales 31

 by Evangeline Anderson

Another hilarious edition to this series. The descriptions of the other-worlders crack me up, what's in this author's coffee to come up with these ideas?
Human cop Cassie and her Kindred partner Stone are on the hunt for a porn star murderer and imposter. He looks like a Beast Kindred but he can't be.
DNA and other clues lead them to a planet that caters to the sex industry. Just how far will they have to go to complete their mission, collect the evidence and escape? It's a dangerous place, expect the unexpected.
Great story and wonderful characters, I loved it.
